 When a manufacturer of alternative-fuel engines needed an implementation of financial Business Intelligence reports, they turned to Aviana. The client’s needs were straightforward: Create five to seven financial reports. But the timeframe was challenging: Implement the reports within one month. To meet the tight timeframe, Aviana implemented Cognos Performance Applications. These are pre-built reports with all the features necessary to plug directly into a database, including a pre-built ETL and metadata linked to those reports. But even these pre-built items still need to be installed, configured, tested, and adjusted so that all the pieces work properly. Aviana consultants began the project on short notice and had completed the project within eighteen days – two days before schedule. The client then extended the project to incorporate more information. Aviana modified the existing Performance Applications to include additional inputs for Plan data, modified the hierarchy to include Market Segments, created a data cube and a report to track variance analysis – all within seven days. A major vehicle manufacturer and distributor needed help with a Cognos implementation, and asked Aviana for assistance. The problem was a crucial one: Planning the feed of inventory from manufacturing plants to dealers.
The client was well into an implementation when they realized that they needed help. Although capable, the client’s employees were fragmented. Aviana consultants went to work to bring structure to the implementation. First, Aviana provided guidance regarding the structure of data to incorporate into the data warehouse. Aviana then created a physical and logical design for the metadata to be used in modeling. Finally, Aviana consultants created the most difficult queries to be used in reports. During this process, Aviana negotiated between several departments to ensure clear communication to move the project forward. The project's success led to additional stages. Aviana stayed on board after the initial implementation to supply training and additional rollouts. Aviana remained the Cognos expert on site, providing mentoring and guidance to the client’s employees. And, Aviana remained involved in future stages as the project rolled out to several other departments.
